Director of Labour of Labour and Employment Department, State of Gujarat on 21/03/2020 issued a circular following the guidelines of Ministry of Home Affairs, to avoid hardships to employees and workmen during the lockdown period due to Covid-19 Pandemic, it directed to all public and private enterprises not to deduct the wages of workmen or employees till 15/04/2020, consider their presence in units, not to deduct their salary and terminate any workman during this period due their failure to remain present at workplace. It was also further requested that even in case if the company could not to open their offices due to spread of pandemic then also the company may pay its employees and workmen for that period. It was also suggested that the companies may provide facilities such as laptop/tablet wherever possible and get the work done from their employees rather than asking them to remain present at crowded workplace, thus by this Director of Labour has clearly indicated that they wished to protect the interest of the employees and workman so as to not affect the public at large during the period of lockdown as declared by Central Government. Interestingly Director of Labour of Labour and Employment Department, State of Gujarat has also issued another circular dated 22.03.2020 for general public directing and requesting not terminate any domestic helpers such as House Cleaners/ Maid, House Keeper, Cook etc. for their non presence till 31.03.2020 and to pay them full amount of their wages without any deduction, attention is also further drawn further for public having in house domestic helpers with servant quarters that they should not be allowed to move out freely so as they socialise with others during this pandemic.
