In a suo moto writ petition (Civil) No.3 of 2020 by Interim Application no. 48411 of 2020 at Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, consisting of Hon’ble The Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Gupta, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hrishikesh Roy have ordered that all limitation periods as prescribed under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 and under section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 shall be extended, in cases wherever the limitation has expired after 15th March 2020 then in such cases, the period from 15th of March till the date on which the lockdown is lifted in the jurisdictional area where the dispute lies or where the cause of action arises shall be extended for a period of 15 days after the lifting of lockdown.
